I have watched a lot of eye surgeries performed by Dr. Jim Schumer in the 14 + years that I have worked at ReVision LASIK and Cataract Surgery Center. The procedure that stands out to me as the coolest, most immediate life changing for patients is the Visian ICL (Implantable Collamer Lens). The Visian ICL is designed for both low to highly nearsighted eyes (-3.00D to -15.00D). This lens is a great option for patients who are interested in freedom or reducing their dependency of glasses and contacts, with the goal of achieving clear and quality vision. The motivation for the majority of patients to choose the Visian ICL is because they do not qualify for LASIK or PRK and the Visian ICL is their only option to correct their vision. I have also encountered patients who safely qualify for LASIK, but are concerned about the laser making a permanent shape change on their cornea, it just freaks some people out! The Doctors at ReVision prefer this lens for patients who have either thin corneas, highly myopic prescriptions, large pupils, or dry eyes, as the Visian ICL will provide them with the greatest potential for best visual outcome.
