Intacs™ at ReVision

What are Intacs™?

Intacs™ are clear, micro-thin prescription corneal implants. When placed between the layers of corneal tissue, they cause the central cornea to flatten, correcting mild nearsightedness. They add support to corneas that have been weakened by a condition called keratoconus.

How it Works

  1. Two self-healing incisions and channels are made in the cornea.
  2. Two ring segments are inserted into the channels created in the cornea.

What to Expect

The Intacs™ procedure takes about 15 to 20 minutes. Most Patients resume normal activities within a day or two and notice improvements in their vision as early as the next day.

Factors that will determine if you are an Intacs candidate include:

  • Are at least 21 years of age
  • Are mildly nearsighted
  • Have had a stable eye prescription for at least one year
  • Have no health issues affecting their eyes
  • Have mild to moderate keratoconus

Your Intacs™ experience begins with an evaluation. At this visit, you and your Doctor will work together to determine if Intacs are right for you.

Before your procedure, you will have the opportunity to speak with a ReVision Team Member to ask any additional questions and review your post-Intac care. During the procedure, your safety and comfort is our top priority. You will be given drops to numb your eyes. You will remain awake, and your Surgeon will talk you through the entire process.

We recommend sleeping after your procedure as you will be most comfortable with your eyes closed. Most Patients see improvement in their vision within one day of surgery, but you may need a couple of days of relaxation to promote healing. If you have a milder case of keratoconus, you may not need any additional vision correction.

FAQ

Intacs™ reshape the curvature of the cornea from within. With this procedure no tissue is permanently removed from the cornea. For Patients with keratoconus, Intacs™ may reduce visual distortions by flattening the steep part of the cornea.

Intacs™ are made of a biocompatible, medical-grade plastic.

You should not feel the Intacs™ and others should not be able to notice them.

Your Intacs™ can be replaced with new ones or removed completely depending on your treatment plan.

While developments in technology have led to improved surgical outcomes, your Surgeon's training and experience are still the most important factors in achieving exceptional visual outcomes.

The Intacs™ procedure is an investment in your quality of life. All procedure and pricing options are reviewed during your appointment.
