COVID-19 has altered the way we see the world. With new information developing daily and safety measures continuing to evolve, the past several months have been challenging. As we look to the future, it’s important to focus on self-care and address medical topics to achieve optimal health and wellness.

Vision effects every aspect of life. Reading text messages, driving, exercising, seeing the alarm clock – all are typical activities but each is uniquely important. Sight is one of our most precious senses used constantly, even during a pandemic.

Proper handwashing is a critical element of good hygiene and a ‘must do’, especially before having contact with the eyes. Annual eye exams are also important to ensure the eye is healthy, functioning properly and free from disease. Having a healthy eye is essential when considering any kind of vision correction such as LASIK or cataract procedures.

COVID-19 is Motivating Patients to Seek Vision Correction Alternatives

Mask wearing and a heightened awareness to decrease face touching are crucial measures to slow the spread of COVID-19 but can result in complications to those who wear eyeglasses and contact lenses. For this reason, many are seeking alternative vision correction solutions such as LASIK. Using laser technology, LASIK provides clear vision and reduces the potential spread of bacteria from repeated eye and face touching. The inconvenience of eyeglass lens fogging while wearing a mask is also eliminated by choosing LASIK or other vision correction procedures.

Vision continues to change as we age. Addressing these changes timely with a vision care professional is a good opportunity to learn about procedures to restore vision and enhance quality of life at any age. Advanced technology cataract procedures provide options to those in their 50s and beyond to also enjoy freedom from glasses and contacts. This visual freedom helps increase daily simplicity and safety to a vulnerable population during COVID-19.

Be proactive when seeking vision solutions to increase comfort, freedom, and safety during these unprecedented times. Healthcare providers adhering to the highest safety guidelines are well-prepared to deliver quality medical care in a safe, comfortable environment during COVID-19 and beyond.
